Our needs as human beings differ greatly depending on where we live, the kind of work we do, our age, our gender, if we’re pregnant, if we’re sick and hopefully, if we’re healthy. 🙂
The “2000” calorie diet is a vague, vague metric. It’s a “general” assumption for the population that should be taken with a grain of salt – we may need more and we may need less.
Fortunately, there are ways to calculate exactly how much YOU need to eat based on your age, gender, height, level of physical activity.
I don’t encourage calorie counting – its a process that can drive a person mad and lead to extreme binges – but, I do encourage general ballparking of calories if someone is trying to lose or gain weight.
